RetroShell

A real PowerShell terminal with CRT glow, synthesized keyboard sounds, and a holographic 3D mode. Browse files inside a floating graph or an Another World-inspired lab.

RetroShell turns a working Windows terminal into a playful retro computing experience. A live PowerShell session runs through xterm.js and node-pty, with four visual themes, CRT scanlines, phosphor glow, and synthesized key sounds.

Switch into 3D mode and keep typing inside a rotating wireframe cube. The file browser expands the current folder into an interactive spatial graph, with different shapes for different file types.

The lab brings the terminal and file graph onto a translucent display in a flat-polygon scene inspired by Another World (Out of This World). It explores how sound, spatial interfaces, and familiar visual worlds can make everyday tools feel more engaging.

Built with Electron, TypeScript, Three.js, xterm.js, and node-pty. Source and Windows build instructions are available on GitHub. Another World is the work of Éric Chahi; RetroShell is an independent homage.
